The dark half of the year can leave us feeling stagnant, slow-moving, drowsy, and in need of a pick-me-up. In my opinion, there’s no better way to accomplish this than making a smudge stick aromatherapy roll-on blend to help chase away negative energy, clarify the mind, and purify the home.
This handy little roll-on is the perfect companion while puttering around the house, running errands, and even while traveling. It is for those who seek to cleanse their dwellings as well as their personal space, including those around them.
All in all, I have found this blend to be especially useful when faced with situations I know will be emotionally taxing and I need some extra protection from taking on the feelings of others.
I came across this lovely sounding blend and tried to make it on my own. If you don't want to make it yourself, I highly suggest buying it from Moonrise Creek cuz' they're awesome!
So, without further ado, let’s get into the recipe!
Smudge Stick Aromatherapy Roll-On Recipe
For as long as I can remember, the women in my family have often burned white sage to cleanse and purify the home, especially when the winter months have kept us cooped up indoors.
The scent of the smoke was both spiritual and purifying. My mother always said it was burned to dissuade evil and negativity from taking root in the house. Today, I know it to be effective for killing off airborne germs and other nasties during the cold and flu season.
Whatever you use it for, I think we can all agree that it’s a special little ritual to help cleanse the mind, body, and spirit.
How to Make a Smudge Stick Aromatherapy Roll-On
Eventually, I would love to come across a white sage essential oil to swap out the sage EO in this blend to make a truly genuine “smudge” experience. But, for now, the sage in this recipe still has a leg to stand on as it delivers a sense of protection against negativity.
Palo Santo is another popular burnable that is known for its clarifying energy. Its potent wood is often smudged in the home to clear out bad energy and feelings of anguish.
Basil has been used for centuries to ward off empathetic tendencies in regards to taking on others negative emotions and vibes. It’s perfect when going out in about where there are lots of people.
According to the book “Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils,” basil is known to protect you against manipulation.
Lavender is space clarifying, especially for stubborn negative energies. It’s also incredibly relaxing and stress relieving. It is known to protect you from unwarranted criticism.
Cypress is purifying, uplifting, but also grounding at the same time. It is used in this blend to instill strength and resistance. Cypress is known to protect one against disrespect.
Cedarwood is used for its calming and relaxing qualities as well as its strength and fortitude in the face of bad energy. It also wards off feelings of conceit.
Mugwort has been used for thousands of years to help with spirituality, ridding spaces of evil, and for emotional support. If you happen to have mugwort essential oil on hand and plan to use it in this blend, then you must follow this guideline for safe use:
In a separate 1oz dropper bottle, add four drops of mugwort essential oil. Fill to the shoulder with sweet almond oil. This will create a little less than a 1% dilution. Adding one drop of this mixture to the roll-on will give you a safe dilution to use topically. You generally want a 0.25% dilution for topical application or less.
You can, of course, omit the mugwort altogether!
Mugwort has an intense camphoraceous aroma with fresh, cool, green undertones.
Here’s what you’ll need to make a smudge stick aromatherapy roll-on:
• One 10ml roll-on bottle
• 1 drop of the diluted mugwort essential oil, if using. (can sub with 1 drop of galbanum)
• 1 drop basil essential oil
