There is hardly anything worse than having cystic acne. It’s deep and painful, red and inflamed and just downright uncomfortable and embarrassing. I would always get it beside my nose or along my jawline. It was so frustrating because it’s so difficult to hide. Make-up seemed to make it look even worse…it was terrible.
When cystic acne decides to pay you a visit, there are a few things to try for relief.
5 Easy Remedies for Cystic Acne
1. Arnica Gel and Sublingual Homepathics
Arnica is amaaazing for treating redness, bruising, and inflammation and it isn’t just for strained muscles, bumps, and bruises. Arnica also works great for all types of acne! I have used it for all instances of inflammation and redness caused by acne with great results.
I prefer the gel version to prevent clogged pores but if you have very dry skin you may benefit from the extra moisturizing properties of the cream version.
To use Arnica gel/cream all you have to do is dab on the gel as often as you’re able to (at least 3 times per day) and gently rub it in. Feel free to apply mineral make-up on top of it. You’ll see a major improvement in just 24 hrs. I usually keep applying it for several days until the swelling has gone down and the redness is gone.
Taking sublingual (under the tongue) Arnica Montana 6C or 30C will help work on things from the inside while the gel works on the outside. The duo together is a must have! I get the combo pack HERE.
2. White Willow Bark and Honey Mask
I’ve talked about this mask before in the past and it works great! If you have heard of people using aspirin mixed with water or honey to treat their blemishes, this is the all-natural version. That means no synthetic chemicals. This mask can be used once a day.
3. Green Tea Toner
Using green tea as a toner will tighten pores, reduce inflammation and redness, and help prevent hyperpigmentation. Keep it in the fridge for extra anti-inflammatory properties. You can use this toner twice per day. I talked about how to make this special homemade toner in this article.
4. Cooling Cucumber Slices
Not just great for your puffy eyes, applying cool cucumber slices to cystic acne will help calm and cool the area bringing down inflammation. The moisturizing properties from cucumber will also help keep the skin smooth so that covering up blemishes is easier (no more cakey make-up! Yaaaay!). I like to keep a pre-sliced in a little ziplock baggie for quick and easy use.
5.Herbal Ice Cubes
The last really easy tip I want to share with you is herbal ice cubes and they couldn’t be easier to make yourself. All you need is Chamomile or Green Tea and an ice tray for freezing. You can read about my favorite recipes HERE.
The chamomile/green tea ice cubes will be very soothing for inflamed acne. Simply take an herbal ice cube and carefully glide it over blemishes every few seconds. Just don’t hold the ice cube on the skin too long, just a few seconds each time will work great.
