While perusing World Market the other day, I came across an aesthetically pleasing body oil and roll-on combo that really caught my eye. The simple yet beautiful body oil was a clear 4oz dropper bottle filled with a clear carrier oil and real rosebuds while another had real lavender flowers.

Unfortunately, after giving each a whiff, I could tell that the scent was a bit synthetic, so passed up on buying them. Instead, I made my own version, and I have to say, I really love them!

Not only are they beautiful to look at, but they also smell amazing, are great for moisturizing the skin, and they make me feel like I'm using something luxurious.

DIY Flower Petal Body Oil and Roll-On Recipe

The original flower petal body oil I found at World Market contained apricot and sweet almond oil, both of which are great options to use for a silky body oil that sinks into the skin and leaves it feeling soft and supple.

If you fancy a bit more oomph in the moisture department, I recommend adding some shea nut oil, avocado oil, fractionated coconut oil (this smells like coconut, FYI), and other heavier oils to the mix. Keep in mind that some of these oils have their own hue, so if you want your flower petals to stand out you'll need to opt for a clear carrier oil.

You can also scent these body oils with essential oils and create your own unique fragrances that complement the flower petals you use.

Here's what you'll need to make 4oz flower petal body oil:

• One 4oz dropper bottle (preferably clear glass so you can see the flowers)
• Clear carrier oil (apricot kernel, sweet almond, and grapeseed still have some color, but are pretty clear) - I used 4oz of fractionated coconut oil since it's a super clear oil and I love it on the skin
• 6 or more dried rosebuds plus a pinch or two of dried rose petals
• 20 drops rose absolute in jojoba oil (or 3-4 drops rose absolute)
• 5 drops tangerine essential oil

This will make a 1% dilution of essential oils.

Loving Preparation - Rose Flower Petal Body Oil

1. Add the dried rosebuds and petal to the dropper bottle.
2. Next, pour in the carrier oils and fill the dropper bottle to the shoulder.
3. Add the essential oils, caps closed, then roll between your palms to mix.

*** You can use smaller dropper bottles to make multiple flower petal body oils that you can give away to friends and family. I know I'll be making these in the coming months!

To Use

This oil is great to use fresh out of the shower to seal moisture into the skin. I use about two quarter-sized amounts for my entire body, and my skin feels hydrated all day.

You can also use it to moisturize your cuticles, dry hands, elbows, knees, and heels, I've even used it to help tame flyaways and moisturize the ends of my hair.

How to Make a Lavender Flower Roll-On

Since this recipe is a roll-on, its purpose is more for aromatherapy than for treating the skin, though you could certainly make a nice nourishing face serum if you used rosehip oil, evening primrose oil, argan oil, etc.

If you choose to go that route, just know that the flowers will not be as striking to look at.

Also, the lavender flowers will infuse their own scent into this roll-on, so expect a nice lavender undertone from the flowers.

Feel free to add essential oils to create lovely blends that both smell amazing and offer their therapeutic benefits.

To make your own lavender flower roll-on, you will need:

• One roll-on bottle
• A clear carrier oil  like apricot kernel or sweet almond (or fancier carrier oil for serum making)
• A pinch of dried lavender flowers
• 5 drops lavender essential oil
• 1 drop frankincense essential oil

This will make a 3% dilution of essential oils.

Add all the ingredients to the roll-on bottle, cap closed, then roll between your palms to mix.

To Use

Apply to temples, throat, and wrists before bed to help encourage stress-relief, calmness, and a sense of relaxation.
