Is Hemp Seed Oil The New Holy Grail? An Oil Re-evaluation.
For the past few years, jojoba oil has been my “Holy Grail” acne treatment, especially for stubborn blackheads and whiteheads. While it does dissolve these icky little plugs, jojoba oil can cause some people’s skin to “purge” toxins when they begin using it, making acne worse before it gets better. For a lot of people, this is pretty scary! No one wants their skin to get worse, but unfortunately, that’s just how jojoba oil seems to work.
I still love jojoba oil though, and it is definitely in my top 5 oils to use for healthy clear skin. But is there a better alternative?
You bet!
Hemp Seed Oil – Your Skin’s New Best Friend
Hemp oil, as you may know, comes from the Cannabis plant as is known to be one of the most nutritious oils for the skin.
Hemp oil contains Vitamins D and E and has the ability to reduce inflammation, blotchiness, dryness, and uneven texture without clogging the pores.
It also has a balanced ratio of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids (3:1) which helps reduce the symptoms of acne, rosacea, psoriasis, and eczema.
Hemp seed oil has a comedogenic rating of zero, meaning that it has zero chance of breaking you out or clogging your pores. It’s totally A-Okay to use on acne prone skin and will actually help your skin balance its sebum (oil) production.
Its thinner consistency makes it great for all skin types, especially those who have oilier skin and sinks in soon after application. It feels light yet moisturizing and goes well under makeup.
Internal Use of Hemp Seed Oil for Acne
Another cool thing about hemp seed oil is that it contains about 60% linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid that helps regulate sebum production. Sebum is produced to help lubricate the skin without clogging pores, but when our diets lack enough linoleic acid it can become sticky and easily hardens in the pores. This hardened sebum then becomes a blackhead, whitehead, or acne lesion.
Consuming a high-quality hemp seed oil will help increase your levels of linoleic acid which will improve the quality and amount of oil your skin produces. Pretty soon, you’ll have oil that will be less likely to clog your pores! I like to take about 1-2 TB a day; more than enough to meet your daily value for essential fatty acids. Taking it every day is safe and beneficial for healthy skin.
Which Hemp Oil is Best?
• High quality, unrefined, cold-pressed hemp oil will be a gorgeous green color with a pleasantly nutty flavor. It is easy to substitute it in salad dressing recipes. I even like adding it to smoothies.
• Refined hemp seed oil will be clear and devoid of nutrients so be sure to check the label.
External Use of Hemp Seed Oil for Acne
As an added benefit, hemp seed oil also happens to be one of the best moisturizers out there because it is able to penetrate skin cells and lubricate them. Since it doesn’t clog your pores, it is safe to use daily and will keep your skin radiant and silky smooth.
Hemp Seed Oil will also Relieve/Improve
• Redness
• Itchiness
• Dry patches
• Blotchy skin
• Skin tone
• Inflammation
To Use
Simply wet your face with warm water and apply a small amount on your skin. I like to massage it in before gently towel drying it off. Use at least once a day.
As far as the OCM, I would recommend trying it out. I don’t currently use it as a cleanser only because it is a bit pricey so I save it for moisturizing.
Which Hemp Seed Oil Should I Buy?
There are many fantastic companies out there that make high-quality hemp seed oil. The main thing to look for is cold pressed, organic, unrefined hemp oil if you can find it.
The absolute BEST hemp oil I’ve come across is this one. Which does not have to be refrigerated because it is packaged in Miron glass, a type of glass that is highly vibrational and is known to preserve and protect substances contained within it for long periods of time.
Having said that, I have found a new hemp seed oil that really does put all the rest to shame, and that’s because it’s ozonated.
Hemp seed oil that is infused with ozone (activated oxygen) is highly anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and is incredibly healing.
This makes ozonated hemp seed oil the strongest and most effective oil you can use for treating acne.
You can find ozonated hemp seed oil here. Be aware that the smell of ozone is pretty dang strong and can be off-putting at first. However, the difference this oil has made to my skin is worth it.
I also really like this Organic Hemp Oil for both internal and external use, and this Pure Hemp Seed Body Oil
for external use. Both of these oils must be refrigerated to keep them fresh.
I just know you’ll be amazed by the results you’re going to see using hemp seed oil. Your blemishes will begin to diminish and your skin will be baby soft. I really hope you give it a go =)
