One of my favorite things about winter is getting cozy, eating great food, and enjoying the seasonal aromas that remind me of chilly forests, spiced chai lattes, and peppermint candies. There is no better time of year for giving loved ones delicious smelling homemade room sprays to entice the senses and encourage holiday cheer.
I will always be a lover of all things pine. Its uplifting affects keep me cheerful all season long and keep my mind sharp when all I want to do is hibernate under heavy blankets till spring. Of course, not everyone is a huge conifer fan like me (and for those who are, I have a lovely balsam fir sugar scrub recipe for you), so I decided to offer you all a few tried and true holiday room spray recipes to enjoy and share with others! They make great little gifts and are super frugal as you can make quite a few for pennies on the dollar.
My Favorite Holiday Room Spray Recipes for Christmas Cheer
There’s going to be something in here for everyone! If you’re not sure which spray to make first, you can always divide the recipe to the bare minimum and add those essential oils to a piece of paper. You can then waft the aroma and see how you like it!
Keep in mind too that you can multiply or divide the basic recipe below to suite any size spritzer bottle you want to use. This comes in handy when you want to give just a little something to friends and family.
To begin with any of the recipes below, you will need:
• 1 4oz spritzer bottle
• 1oz of witch hazel or vodka (this helps keep the essential oils from sticking to the glass and will disperse them evenly when shaken)
• 40-50 drops of desired essential oil
*** The 4oz size will last a good month with frequent use and will stay fresh for months!
Peppermint Patty
• 20 drops peppermint
• 10 drops wintergreen
• 10 drop vanilla (this is a very thick essential oil and may need to warm up before you can get any drops out. I use body heat to do this so that I do not harm the integrity of the oil)
3 Wise Men
• 15 drops frankincense
• 15 drops myrrh
• 15 drops sweet orange
Oh Tannenbaum
• 30 drops balsam fir
• 10 drops sweet orange
• 5 drops eucalyptus (peppermint is also nice here!)
Holiday Cheer
• 10 drops cinnamon bark
• 10 drops nutmeg
• 10 drops balsam fir
• 5 drops clove
• 5 drops peppermint
Winter Forest
• 20 drops balsam fir
• 10 drops peppermint
• 10 drops wintergreen
• 5 drops juniper
Candy Cane
• 30 drops peppermint
• 15 drops vanilla
Christmas Morning
• 10 drops balsam fir
• 10 drops cardamom
• 5 drops cinnamon bark
• 5 drops frankincense
• 5 drops sweet orange
• 2 drops vanilla
Home for the Holidays
• 40 drops Thieves essential oil (you can learn to make your own here!)
All is Calm
• 50 drops Stress Away
All is Bright
• 20 drops balsam fir
• 20 drops lemon
• 5 drops lime
To use these lovely holiday sprays all you need to do is add all of your ingredients to a spritzer bottle, cap, and then shake vigorously before each use.
Spritz them around your home before guests arrive, keep one in the bathroom as an all-natural deodorizer, or spritz them over cushions and bed sheets. They are especially lovely to use on Christmas morning.
I hope you give these a try! What have been your favorite holiday room spray recipes so far this year? Please let me know in the comments!

Can you diffuse these to see if you like the scent before committing to making a bottle?

I love the recipes, they sound wonderful. I cannot wait to make them. I love the label on the amber bottle. Do you offer labels like that to print by any chance? That would be a beautiful addition. It could simply be packaged taped to a bottle.
Thanks for the wonderful recipes and links to the essential oils on amazon. It is so helpful.

Hi KT!
I actually just used a photo editing program to put the image over the bottle, haha! I wish I could make actual labels, they would be so nice looking! 🙂 I'm happy that you're loving the recipes!

Hello, These sound lovely, I'm new too aramatherapy so a 120ml spritz bottle 30mls of witchhazel or vodka and 90ml of ?? Spring water ok? I've just brought same essential oils cinnamon cassia, clove, balsam fir, helichrysam, and other mixed essential oil for sleep and resperity, ect....
Can I also add lemon juice/lime juice to the mix or only the essential oils, if left in the fridge?
I do not have all the essential oils to make same of the spritzes so thinking to improvise perhaps,
also will be getting a diffuser for xmas so can't wait for that, yay! Merry Christmas.

Hi Anna!
You can certainly use ANY essential oils you have to create unique blends 🙂 My recipes are just guide lines in essence! Also, you don't have to be super precise with the witch hazel or vodka. Just a little splash will do! In fact, you don't even NEED these, they just help keep the essential oils from sticking to the inside of the bottle.
Hmmm... I have never used lemon or lime juice in a spritzer before. I would think that it may clog up your spritzer bottle but I'm not positive. Also, citrus juice may not have the aroma you're looking for like an essential oil would. But yes, if you DID try adding citrus juice, it would need to be well strained and kept in the fridge.
Best of luck and Merry Christmas! 🙂
