DIY Cinnamon Scented Pine Cones

DIY Cinnamon Scented Pine Cones

One of my favorite things to buy at Trader Joes this time of year is their super cinnamon-infused decorative brooms. Simply hang them up where desired, and they fill your home with a lovely aroma that gets you in the perfect festive mood for Fall.

This year, however, I've decided to change things up a bit from brooms to pine cones and from store-bought to DIY! The result? Easy cinnamon scented pine cones that are perfect for making centerpieces and other Fall holiday décor that everyone will love!

DIY Cinnamon Scented Pine Cones for That Festive Flair!

What I really love about this little project is its reusability and the fact that you can switch out the scent as you desire as the holidays progress from Fall to Winter.

You can add them to decorative bowls, the fireplace and mantlepiece, on wreaths, and in various centerpieces to scent different rooms in your home.

To make your own cinnamon scented pine cones, you will need:

  • Your favorite cinnamon essential oil (I really like cinnamon bark and cassia)
  • Pine cones - if they are harvested, make sure they are clean and free of pests

You can find pine cones at your local craft store, or you can harvest them from pine trees in your local area. The important thing is to make sure they are in good condition, are clean, and have zero bugs!

You can actually bake your pine cones at 200 degrees for up to 30 minutes in order to dry out the pine cones and kill any bugs that may be hiding in them. Be sure to check them often to prevent unwanted discoloration.

Once you have the number of pine cones you desire, scenting them naturally is a piece of cake.

All you have to do is drip 5-10 drops of cinnamon bark essential oil on each pine cone as close to the center as you can. This ensures that essential oil can soak into the crevices of the pine cones where the aroma of the oils can diffuse nice and slow.

Place the pine cones where you like and voila! You're done! A quick and easy yet stylish way to scent your home naturally!
