In a few short weeks, we’ll be preparing our school supplies, setting our alarm clocks, and packing lunches again for back to school season. But what’s one thing we may be forgetting to pack away for our children for the school year ahead? You guessed it, some go-to essential oils that are ready to go and simple to use because who always has time to make your own blends? I'm guessing not most moms.
So with that in mind, I've found some great essential oil blends are already made and remove all the guesswork for you.
In recent years, the power of essential oils has really come into light. Their amazing healing properties can do anything from calming the nerves, sharpening the mind, and easing an upset stomach, but that’s not all. Essential oils can also strengthen our mental fortitude, our immune systems, and our resistance to stressful situations – all necessary things when starting school wouldn’t you say?
And, what’s great about the oil blends I’m sharing with you today is that they can be used even if you’re at University or just need a boost at work. So, while this may be a back to school post, the oils I list below are for so much more!
Also, if you're interested in single oils be sure to check out my post on The Best Essential Oils for Back to School for a rather extensive list that covers everything from focus, immunity, sleep, stress, and a whole spectrum of emotions.
Ready-Made Essential Oil Blends You Need for Back to School
These are some of my very favorite blends for back to school and I wanted to make it easy for moms and students alike to choose which oils are best suited for their needs. You may notice that most of the oils below are by Plant Therapy because, well, I’m sort of obsessed with their blends and I’m sure you will be too!
So, without further ado, here are my top picks:
A+ Attention – for ages 2 years and up
A+ Attention contains petitgrain, bergamot, cedarwood, grapefruit, lavender, and vetiver which are known for their focus honing benefits and their ability to keep your child on task in a busy or distracting classroom. The bright notes of citrus in this blend will also instill a positive attitude and a friendliness towards others.
It’s the perfect blend to help get those A’s!
To use, simply add 5-10 drops to a personal aromatherapy inhaler like this one, or mix a 2-5% dilution using your favorite carrier oil and apply directly (the wrists work nicely!). A roll-on bottle works very well for this and can easily be taken to school and used as needed to boost mental clarity.
You can get the roll-on version here.
Calming the Child – for ages 2 years and up
The first day of school, especially if it’s a new school, can be a bit nerve racking for your child.
Calming the Child is a blend that contains mandarin, tangerine, lavender, and Roman chamomile for a scent that calms nerves and promotes a sense of tranquility and peace. The citrusy scent of the mandarin and tangerine helps boost cheerfulness and positivity while the lavender and chamomile relaxes a stressed mind and eases tension both mentally and physically.
To use, simply add a few drops to your favorite diffuser (I like this one) for 30 minutes before leaving for school or before bedtime. Mix a 1-3% dilution using your favorite carrier oil or lotion and apply topically as needed.
You can get the pre-diluted roll-on here.
Germ Destroyer – for ages 2 years and up
School can be full of germs especially when pens and pencils are shared or desks aren’t wiped down properly between classes. All in all, it is very easy to come into contact with all sorts of bacteria in the classroom.
Germ Destroyer contains a blend of spruce, marjoram, lavender, rosalina (a relative of tea tree), and lemon that help protect your child against circulating colds and other germs. Using it during times of cold and flu can also help shorten the duration of the cold making it the perfect ally to have on hand for boosting immunity.
To use, simply make a 1-3% dilution using your favorite carrier oil and apply to the bottoms of the feet. You can also diffuse a few drops for 20-30 minutes during a cold or flu to help eradicate airborne germs and keep your family well during cold and flu season.
Other great blends to consider include immune boom, medieval mix, thieves blend, onguard, and germ fighter. Be sure to dilute these properly and make sure the oils in these blends are age appropriate. You can learn more about the proper use of essential oils for babies and children HERE.

Grow Ease – for ages 2 years and up
Growing pains can be, well, a pain during the school year especially when they happen at night and hamper your child’s sleep. It is estimated that 25-40% of children will experience growing pains, so this is a great blend to have on hand!
Grow Ease is formulated with soothing pain relieving essential oils like juniper berry, rosalina, spruce, turmeric, and blue tansy that help reduce inflammation and ease the muscular discomfort associated with growing pains.
To use, simply make a 2-4% dilution using your favorite carrier oil and massage into the affected area. You can also add 3-5 drops to 1TB of bubble bath or a ½ cup of Epsom salts and add it to a running bath before bedtime.
You can get the roll-on version here.
Nighty Night – for ages 2 years and up
Sometimes the excitement of starting school can keep your child wired before bedtime.
Use a soothing sleep inducing blend like Nighty Night to help calm an overactive mind and soothe the senses. It will help your child fall asleep at a decent hour and promote a good night’s rest.
This blend includes oils like lavender, marjoram, mandarin, cedarwood, patchouli, clary sage, Roman chamomile, and blue tansy. Patchouli is especially known for its sleep encouraging properties.
To use, simply make a 2% dilution using your favorite carrier oil and apply to the bottoms of the feet before bedtime, add to a bath, or diffuse in your child’s bedroom before bedtime.

Odor Zapper – for ages 2 years and up
Let’s be honest here, children don’t always smell like a bouquet of fresh roses. For times when your child has funky feet or “growing up” smells, Odor Zapper is here to save the day!
This blend includes odor fighting essential oils like pine, copaiba (strengthens other essential oils), palmarosa, lemon, coriander, cypress, and sandalwood.
To use, simply add 10 drops of the blend to a small spritzer bottle and spray on shoes, sheets, and carpeting or mix into a ¼ cup of baking soda, sprinkle on the offending item, and then vacuum the excess.
This also works well in homemade deodorant recipes! Here’s a few recipes you can alter to suit your child’s needs:

To use, simply make a 2-4% dilution in your favorite carrier oil and apply it to the temples and the back of the neck as needed.

Tummy All Better – for ages 2 years and up
The Tummy All Better blend is great for intestinal cramping, gas, and other forms of digestive upset that may be caused by a cold or flu, nervousness, or from eating something that doesn’t agree with your child’s stomach.
This blend includes petitgrain, dill, Roman chamomile, spearmint, and ginger which are all wonderful anti-carminative oils that help ease all manner of digestive ills.
To use, simply make a 2-3% dilution using your favorite carrier oil and apply it over the abdomen in a clockwise manner and to the tops of the feet. Your child can also sniff straight from the bottle in order to relieve nausea and motion sickness. This is great for field trips!

Zit Fighter – for ages 10 years and up
A back to school post wouldn’t be complete without a remedy for acne amiright? Well, your child is in luck!
Zit Fighter is a blend that contains oils that control the overproduction of sebum, kill acne causing bacteria, reduce inflammation, and lessen the overall appearance of acne. These oils include geranium, grapefruit, cedarwood, peppermint, rosemary, and Roman chamomile.
To use, simply make a 3-5% dilution in a carrier oil like jojoba oil (this oil will not clog your pores) and apply with a clean cotton swab to the affected areas.
